Sunday Sermon: The Second Coming of Christ

Living in Anticipation

Sunday Sermon

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Today, I want to talk to you about a topic that has been eagerly awaited by believers for centuries – the second coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As Christians, we believe that Jesus will come again to fulfill the remaining prophecies and bring an end to this world as we know it. This is a belief that has been passed down to us from the early apostles and is recorded in the scriptures. In fact, even Jesus himself spoke about his second coming during his time on earth. In Matthew 24: 30-31, he says, “At that time, the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.”

The Return of Jesus Christ

You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him

My dear friends, the return of Jesus Christ is not something to be taken lightly or dismissed as a mere myth. It is a central and crucial part of our faith as Christians. However, the question that arises is – how should we prepare for his second coming? The answer lies in the teachings of Jesus himself. In Luke 12:40, he says, “You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” Jesus is calling us to be vigilant and ready at all times. We should not fall into the trap of complacency and think that his coming is still a long way off. It could happen at any moment, and we need to be prepared.

How To Prepare for the Second Coming of Jesus

So, how do we prepare ourselves for the second coming of Jesus? The first step is to have a personal relationship with him. As Christians, we should strive to deepen our relationship with Jesus every day through prayer, reading the scriptures, and fellowship with other believers. We must also repent of our sins and turn away from our old ways. As Jesus said in Luke 13:3, “Unless you repent, you too will all perish.” The second step is to live a life that is pleasing to God. We must strive to love and serve others, just as Jesus did. In Matthew 25:40, Jesus says,

Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.

Beginning of a New Era

Now, my dear brothers and sisters, we do not know the exact day or hour when Jesus will return, but one thing is certain – when he comes, it will be a glorious event. In Revelation 21:4, it says, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” This is the hope and promise that we have as Christians. The second coming of Jesus will mark the beginning of a new era, where there will be no more suffering, pain, or evil.

Live a Life That Pleases Him

In conclusion, my dear friends, let us continue to wait eagerly for the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Let us prepare ourselves by living a life that is pleasing to him, and by sharing the good news of salvation with others. And as we wait, let us hold on to the words of Revelation 22:12, where Jesus says, “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.” Let us pray.

Dear heavenly Father, we thank you for the promise of your son, Jesus Christ, coming again. Help us to be vigilant and ready for his return. Help us to live our lives in a way that is pleasing to you, and help us to share your love and salvation with others. We pray that when Jesus comes again, we will be found faithful and ready to receive him with joy. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
